About

As of April 13, 2023 we have formed a Board of new Firewise members and established a 501c so we can pursue grants.

Lake California is a Firewise Community.

We work to protect our community from fire. Don’t let it burn!

Darbie Andrews and Maria Martinez-Chambers volunteer their time to co-lead LC Firewise. In 2019, they researched ways to help reduce fire risk and decided to pursue Firewise. They completed an action plan and submitted the Firewise application to the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association). We have been certified every year as a Firewise Community since 2020. We now have an entire Firewise Board of volunteers including: Terrie Runolfson, Terri Means, Steven Gray, Kathy Bezayiff, Nessa Wetterman, Ashleigh Crocker, Roma Donaghy, Louise Wilkenson

Our Mission: To educate Lake California Community residents on how to improve defensible space fire near their homes and assist residents with removing fire hazards and hardening their homes and property. Our goal is to acquire grants to help pay for fire hazard reduction in Lake California.

One of our goals is to earn grants. Darci Rowe took a grant writing course and is working on writing grants. We’re also working with the Resource Conservation District of Tehama to do more wild fire risk reduction.
